The purpose of this privacy notification is to describe how Adelaide University (University, we, us or our) collects, holds, discloses, stores and uses information (including Personal Information) about you and your browsing activity through our website.

1.1. We collect information about you and your browsing activity through our website.  Some of this information is provided directly by you inputting your information (e.g. by completing an enquiry form or other form).  Other information is collected automatically by us through the use of business tools. 

1.2. Some information we collect through our website will be Personal Information.  We will only use or disclose your Personal Information where we have a legitimate need to do so, where we have your consent, or to comply with law.

Where you provide information to us in order to obtain further information from us (e.g. by completing an enquiry form or other form). 

We collect this information to process and respond to your requests, for the general purposes set out in our Privacy Policy and may also use the information for direct marketing (which may include contacting you to provide you information on our own behalf or on behalf of third parties, and/or to enable our Controlled Entities and/or selected third-party partners to provide you with product and service information directly).

Using cookies and pixels

A cookie is a packet of data that a website places on your computer to identify you as a visitor to that website and remember your preferences.  A pixel is a code placed on our website which triggers a cookie.

We collect information using cookies and pixels, including by:

  • tracking known user web activity (page views, clicks, page scroll etc); and
  • tracking known and anonymous user interactions with paid advertising (whether you were served an ad, clicked on it etc).

We use this information for our marketing activities (which may include contacting you to provide you information on our own behalf or on behalf of third parties, and/or to enable our Controlled Entities and/or selected third-party partners to provide you with product and service information directly), to ensure website functionality, enhance the experience of using our website (e.g. personalising content), enhance the targeting of advertisements to you, track usage patterns, target information regarding our services and to enable social media features.

Using server logs and website analytics

When you access our website, our server may log the following information:

  • your IP address;
  • the date and time of your visit to our website;
  • the pages you accessed and documents downloaded;
  • type of browser and operating system you use; and
  • the authentication credentials entered by you if accessing a restricted site or application.

Our website also uses Adobe Experience Platform, a service which transmits website traffic data to Adobe servers located within Australia.  

We use reports provided by Adobe Experience Platform and information logged by our server to help us understand our website traffic and usage, to gather statistics about how our web content is used and to maintain and improve our website service for users.

We do not attempt to identify you using web tracking as part of our regular business practices, however in the event of an investigation, we may be required to inspect our server's logs or provide access to a law enforcement agency or other government agency with relevant legal authority. We only identify you once you identify yourself.

3.2.2. our Controlled Entities, if such Personal Information is required by the Controlled Entity to provide services to us or undertake activities for us;

3.2.3. to selected third-party partners as part of our marketing activities, to enable those partners to provide you product and service information directly;

3.2.4. The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, in connection with their transition to us;

3.2.5. otherwise as set out in our Privacy Policy.

3.3. Some third parties to whom we disclose your Personal Information may be located outside of Australia, including China, India, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore and Kenya.
