Course overview
This course aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to analyse pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data. Building upon biological knowledge, the course delves into the application of modelling and simulation to describe the time-course of drug action and how this is affected by physiological, environmental and genetic factors. By applying best practices in model development, evaluation, interpretation and presentation, learners will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for impactful informed drug development decisions. This course aligns with the program's intent to provide a theoretical and practical knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, drug development and commercialisation.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the impact of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors on the time course of drug response and predict the impact of physiological, genetic, pathological and pharmacological factors
- Explain the approaches used to mathematically describe the actions and reactions of drugs
- Interrogate modelling strategies according to international best practice for the impact on selection of a drug for further development and/or appropriate dosing strategies for target patient group(s)
- Design and plan a modelling and simulation analysis to address a development / clinical question
- Demonstrate proficiency in undertaking individual and/or team-based modelling of modelling and simulation analysis including interpretation and of the results
- Communicate the results from modelling and simulation analyses as appropriate for an industry setting
