Course overview
This course examines policies affecting food and agriculture using an economic framework and an international perspective. Students develop a solid understanding of the agricultural and food policy environment, the policy formulation process, and the role, rationale and economic consequences of government intervention in food and agricultural markets. Each topic is motivated by a current or emerging issue facing the food and agricultural sectors of the economy.

- Domestic policy and international trade in agriculture and food
- Environmental policies, natural resource management and human health and nutrition.

- Demonstrate practical applications of policy analysis related to agriculture and food issues.
- Discuss the economic and political feasibility of policy changes and instruments.
- Analyse how public policy affects the behaviour of economic agents in the agricultural and food sectors.
- Recognise agriculture and food policy-related problems and whether government intervention is warranted.
- Critically reflect on and apply economic concepts and theories to analyse agriculture and food policy issues and propose policy interventions.
- Demonstrate ability to work in teams to analyse global food and agricultural policy .
