How do I satisfy the Genuine Student requirement?

Last Modified: 13/Jul/2024

Your offer may include a condition requiring satisfaction of Adelaide University's Genuine Student requirement. We will undertake further checks of your application and you may be asked to book and complete an interview as part of this process. When assessing your Genuine Student requirement, we will consider Australian Government guidelines including:
  • details of your current circumstances including ties to family, community, employment and economic circumstances
  • your immigration history including any visa refusals
  • gaps in study (including work experience), change in area of study, relevance of the program to past or proposed future employment
  • your knowledge of the program and how it will benefit you
  • your knowledge of Adelaide University and Australia
  • if you have studied in Australia, a detailed history of your study record in Australia
  • any other relevant information, including evidence to support the above.
Applicants who already hold a temporary visa must provide a copy of their current visa grant notice as part of their application so we can determine if the Genuine Student requirement is applicable.

If you have been assessed as not meeting the Genuine Student requirement, your offer will be withdrawn, and you will not be eligible for an offer from Adelaide University for two years.

If you have applied with an Education Agent, they can help you supply the required documents.

If you have applied directly, you can upload your documents within the Online Application System.
