What are the different types of classes I'll attend at university?

There are a range of different class types which you may take during your study at Adelaide University and the combination of these can vary depending on your program. Types of classes can include:

• Clinical activity - is designed to be professionally-oriented , with learning activities that involve direct, hands-on experiences. Students receive in-situ feedback from staff, enhancing their learning and helping them to effectively integrate theory with practice in real-world healthcare clinical environments.
• Practical - a student-centric session designed to develop key hands-on skills and techniques relevant to the field of study. Practical classes can be delivered in physical university spaces ( e.g. laboratories or computer pools), online, or as field work. These classes focus on the active application of theoretical knowledge and acquired skills through demonstrations, simulations, and practice in an authentic and supportive environment.
• Forum - offer s deep insights into course -related concepts, ideas, or skills through oral and/or audio-visual presentations delivered online by industry leaders or discipline experts.
• Studio - classes may take place in various settings, including on-campus studios, field locations, or industry-specific environments, enhancing the real-world relevance of the learning experience.
• Tutorials - A discussion-based learning activity that enables students to deepen their understanding of course concepts through active engagement and participation. In these sessions, students collaboratively explore key topics, solve problems, and present ideas, enhancing their ability to apply knowledge and develop communication skills. These sessions can be conducted in an on-campus setting or online via a virtual classroom, providing flexibility while maintaining a focus on student engagement and depth of learning in the discipline.
• Workshops - students work together in groups to investigate, analyse, and devise solutions to real-world problems. Through applying and testing their knowledge, students engage in thoughtful discussions and exchange ideas, both within their groups and with the entire class either on-campus or online.

Depending on your program you may also be required to attend rehearsals, studio sessions, masterclasses, placements, internships, work integrated learning or study tours.
