Sir William Tyree was the founder of the Tyree Group of companies and a leading Australian industrialist. Upon his passing in 2013, Sir William left an enduring legacy through his foundation and business interests to support engineering education and research for the future prosperity of Australia.
The Sir William Tyree Engineering Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship to assist students from Australia to pursue their dream of obtaining an Adelaide University engineering qualification, in the face of financial and other challenges.

Value: The scholarship is valued at $60,000 over the duration of a four-year program.
The scholarship is available to commencing engineering students‚ studying full-time in one of the following undergraduate programs at Adelaide University:
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Honours)
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours)
Students undertaking double degree programs are ineligible for the scholarship.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship‚ applicants must:
⦁ be an Australian citizen‚ Permanent Resident of Australia or, Holders of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa or New Zealand Citizen
⦁ be a commencing student at Adelaide University in the year immediately following application opening‚
⦁ have completed year 12 within the last two years with a minimum ATAR of 80 (inclusive of any adjustment factor)*
⦁ enrol full-time in an eligible engineering program
⦁ provide a personal written statement addressing the points listed below
Preference may be given to applicants from regional or remote locations or those from low-socio-economic areas.
* The offer of the scholarship is subject to achieving the required ATAR and admittance to an eligible Adelaide University program. If a scholarship holder does not achieve the required ATAR or is not offered or does not accept a place in an eligible Adelaide University Program‚ the scholarship will be offered to the next ranked applicant.
Applicants must provide a written statement (500-750 words) detailing:
⦁ reasons for studying an engineering degree
⦁ future career goals and personal aspirations
⦁ academic achievements
⦁ details of any financial and/or educational disadvantage they would like considered
⦁ how the scholarship funds will benefit them
⦁ previous work experience‚ community involvement and/or extracurricular activities
⦁ Disclose the name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending)
Applicants are encouraged to clearly address each point under a separate heading.
Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview‚ conducted via Zoom or face to face.
Recipients of the Sir William Tyree Engineering Scholarship cannot be in receipt of another Adelaide University scholarship (recipients may hold one-off grants and prizes valued at $5,000 or less). Please note that the scholarship will be forfeited if the scholarship recipient accepts another scholarship, administered by Adelaide University.
