Why Professional Certificate in Integrated Logistics Support?

Overview

Upskill rapidly with a Professional Certificate specifically designed for Defence and related industry personnel. Delivered fully online, this Professional Certificate can be taken as a stand-alone course, as a building block as part of the Adelaide University Defence Professional Certificates or may also be used as credit for the Master of Systems Engineering.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), a vital discipline in ensuring the efficiency, sustainability, and readiness of complex systems throughout their lifecycle. Participants will explore the key principles of ILS, including planning and designing support systems through supportability analysis, and maintenance and sustainment strategies. The course covers essential topics such as logistics planning, reliability, maintainability and availability, spare parts management, support system elements, training, testing etc. Students will gain practical insights into how to integrate logistics considerations into system development, optimize lifecycle costs, and enhance operational performance. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the role of ILS in delivering effective and cost-efficient solutions for both commercial and defence sectors.

What you'll learn

By completing the Professional Certificate in Integrated Logistics Support, you will be able to:

  • Differentiate mission systems from support systems in a complex systems environment.
  • Identify logistics and supportability factors inherent in complex systems.
  • Identify in‑service support requirements such as system supportability and logistics in various environments.
  • Conduct Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) to inform planning and sustainment.
  • Appraise and critically review the system design process for logistics maintenance and support.
  • Develop logistic support solutions for complex systems.
  • Implement a logistics and supportability plan in a systems environment.
  • Apply concepts and techniques of Integrated Logistics Support in the context of system development across the full life cycle.
  • Conceptualise and evaluate logistics and supportability factors inherent in complex systems.
  • Accurately gauge requirements for systems and logistics support in differing environments.
  • Create and/or adapt a logistics and supportability plan in a systems environment.
  • Conduct a supportability analysis, applying appropriate methods, tools, and applications.
  • Create a logistics system supportability test and evaluation concept.
  • Understand the scope and elements of logistics, including logistics planning, logistics in the system life cycle, and logistics engineering.
  • Apply measures of logistics to assess system performance.
  • Conduct system feasibility analysis, considering operational requirements, maintenance and support concepts, technical performance measures, functional analysis, allocation of requirements, synthesis, analysis, and design optimisation.
  • Recognise logistics in design, manufacturing, and support and apply these principles to optimise lifecycle costs and operational performance.
