What you'll learn
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, with at least 2 in every 3 Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. However, with early detection and treatment, patient survival rates are high.
This short course is designed to empower you with the knowledge and skills to conduct person-centred, high-quality skin checks. You’ll use industry-relevant technologies, become confident in educating patients on how to prevent skin cancer, and understand referral pathways to General Practitioners and other specialists for continuity of care.
You’ll be able to meet the needs of people who might otherwise be unable to regularly access a skin check and increase the number of Australians who detect their skin cancer early – making it easier to treat, cure and ultimately save their life.
This course is completed mostly online and can be undertaken alongside your existing work commitments. You’ll benefit from flexible online study environments, as well as a two-day, face-to-face workshop where you’ll gain essential practical experience in performing skin checks under the guidance of experienced dermoscopists.
Adelaide University is home to the Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre, a leading research centre that focuses on nurses and midwives to improve care.
