Entry requirements

Admission criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.

  • A completed bachelor (AQF level 7) or bachelor honours (AQF level 8) degree or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution; OR
  • A completed nested or related graduate certificate (AQF level 8) or higher or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution.

Craft messages that matter with our Master of Strategic Communication.  

Explore the role of communication in a range of sectors, with a focus on strategic communication and public relations theory and practice. Take courses in media relations and learn how businesses can leverage a hybrid of traditional and digital-first strategies and tools to grow and improve organisational reputation. Dive deep into campaign planning and content creation.  

Take courses examining global perspectives and theory in risk and crisis communication practice. Develop actionable, and innovative strategies for reputation management and recovery in the context of organisational risks and crises. Hone your design eye and knowledge of visual design tools, preparing you well for effective collaboration with a wide range of specialist content designers.   

Choose electives that spark your passion and dive into specialised areas of study. Through an immersive industry project or communication-related research project, you'll transform academic insights into practical, hands-on experience. 

Emerge with the advanced expertise to lead strategic communication in your organisation. Design communications that are business-aligned, purposeful and timely – capable of cutting through the noise when it matters most. 

What you'll learn

In the Master of Strategic Communication, you will complete a range of advanced courses that extend your knowledge and skills in best practice and emerging strategic communications and public relations concepts, theories, principles and practices.  

Alongside specialised communication courses, you’ll also complete courses covering core media skills relevant to the full spectrum of digital and non-digital channels and tools. You’ll study topics, including:

 In your final year, you’ll complete an industry-based project or a communication-related research project.

Study hours

Your courses will require a combination of different learning formats, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Aside from your classes, you’ll also need to allocate additional time for independent study. This may include assignments, readings, projects and contributing to online discussion forums. As a rough guide, full-time studies may require 12-26 hours of class time and 14-18 hours of independent study per week.
