What you'll learn
The Bachelor of Science is a flexible three-year degree providing a strong foundation across the science disciplines. Core courses broaden your knowledge, develop industry-relevant skills and expand your career prospects. You’ll learn scientific data handling, analytical approaches to problem solving, and evidence-based decision-making. Customise your degree with the choice of one or two majors aligned to your interests.
Majoring in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry, you’ll explore how modern drugs are discovered, designed and developed. Study chemistry, biology and pharmacology, ready to address the complex challenges in creating new effective and safe pharmaceutical compounds.
Learn about molecules, genes and cells – the building blocks of life itself. Discover how cells mutate, repair and evolve. Learn about chemical reactions, how they happen and how they reach equilibrium. Recognise different types of molecules and create new materials through chemistry. Study the metabolism of the human body, looking at how the body manages energy and how it adapts to changes in energy needs. Apply your scientific knowledge to pharmacology – understanding how drugs are discovered and developed. Explore how drugs are tested for safety and efficacy in both preclinical phases and clinical trials.
Many of your courses will include a practical component, allowing you to apply theory in hands-on laboratory work. In your final year, you’ll also have the option to complete 80 hours in a professional placement or research project.
This degree offers flexible hybrid delivery, which includes a mix of on-campus and online study. In addition to your lab practicals, you’ll experience tutorials and workshops, seminars and lectures. Assessments will vary depending on courses chosen, but may include exams, written reports, oral presentations, digital portfolios and more.
Graduate with the knowledge and practical skills to thrive in the exciting world of medicinal and biological chemistry.
