Entry requirements

Admission criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.

Secondary education (Year 12)

  • Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

  • Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.

Higher education study

  • Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.

Work and life experience

  • Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR
  • A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR
  • Qualify for special entry.

Overview

Our Bachelor of Media and Communication majoring in Digital Media and Web Design is designed to unlock your creativity in digital design and online media production.  

You'll gain in-depth understanding of the ways audiences use online platforms and how these platforms can affect social and cultural systems.  

Utilising industry-standard software and tools, you’ll develop skills in designing interfaces, websites and interactive experiences – bringing your ideas to life in visually engaging ways. 

But it’s not all theory. Professional experience, capstone and industry projects provide multiple opportunities to sharpen your professional skills in real-world settings and grow your networks. 

All these experiences come together to ensure you’ll graduate with the expertise to thrive in your digital media career. Your versatile skillset and finely tuned creative capabilities will position you well for an exciting role in a wide range of creative industries. 

What you'll learn

This degree blends theory with practical-focused experiences to ensure you graduate with the knowledge and technical expertise needed to excel in your creative media career.  

You’ll study courses that are educational, commercial and entertainment focused. Core media-focused courses will introduce you to critical media perspectives, theories and concepts, and you will learn how to write, plan, deliver, and evaluate communication strategies to effectively engage and inform target audiences. In your digital media and web design major, you’ll explore the societal influence of digital communication platforms. This will shape how you implement communication design principles in your work. Case-study-driven content will challenge you to produce visual strategies and digital media that meet the needs of your target audience.  

Other courses will introduce you to the major theories, methods and tools that impact user experience design and how you might apply these principles to improve accessibility and user experience.  

In third year, you’ll explore the media and communication industry first-hand by gaining professional experience and elevating your industry ready skills in digital media and web design.  

Assessments in this degree bring together hands-on and theoretical learning, providing opportunities for you to put your knowledge into practice. You’ll also complete essays and written assignments, alongside non-traditional presentations.

Study hours
