Admission criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.

Secondary education (Year 12)

Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.

Higher education study

Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.

Work and life experience

Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR
A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR
Qualify for special entry

Our Bachelor of Arts degree presents a forward-looking perspective on the humanities and social sciences, geared towards addressing the increasingly complex challenges facing individuals, communities and societies.

Majoring in cultural studies, you’ll develop high-level communication, critical and independent thinking skills. You’ll build an understanding of the political, social, historical and economic effects of different cultures, while learning strategies to promote social change. With your strong ethical principles and cultural sensitivity, you’ll be able to navigate seamlessly across a diverse range of cultural environments – no matter where in the world your journey takes you.

What you'll learn

Discover how space and place are not only physical sites, but also social, cultural, visual and personal. Build an awareness of the institutions and policies that make up the contemporary Australian cultural sector, learn to evaluate cultural policy, and examine various forms of activism and advocacy in the arts and cultural landscape.

You’ll draw from diverse scholars and artists from across Africa, South America, Australia and the Pacific to develop frameworks for understanding racial difference. You’ll also discover how feminist and other cultural theories frame the intersection between bodies, genders and sexualities.

Common core courses will develop the skills you need to succeed – including collaboration, problem solving and creative thinking – while an internship in your final year allows you to explore potential career options and gain mentoring and networking experiences.
