Course overview

Building on disease understanding, students will learn to formulate nursing diagnoses specific to inpatient care scenarios. They will develop skills in planning and implementing nursing interventions tailored to the needs of hospitalised veterinary patients. Through practical exercises and case studies, students will apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. They will learn to assess patient conditions, prioritise care needs, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and deliver supportive nursing care in simulated clinical settings. Discussions will encompass ethical dilemmas and legal responsibilities related to veterinary patient care. Students will understand their roles in advocating for animal welfare and adhering to regulatory standards.

Active learning methodologies will enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills essential for effective veterinary nursing in various clinical environments.
Upon completion of the course, students will be confident in providing compassionate and competent inpatient nursing care across a spectrum of animal species. They will demonstrate the ability to assess, manage, and monitor veterinary patients effectively, contributing to the overall health and well-being of animals under their care.
