Course overview
This course will enable students to integrate the theory of statistics and data analysis within the research problems faced in their field of study. Data requirements and needs; experimental design and sample theory; hypothesis testing; distribution fitting; non-parametric statistics; data analysis software; statistical modelling; information theory.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically review the data requirements for a research project
- Design and undertake exploratory data analysis.
- Set hypotheses to be tested in order to justify a particular analysis method.
- Undertake statistical analysis of a given data set.
- Critically review, present and report on the results of an analysis.
