Course overview
In this course, students will explore different types of speech pathology assessment tools and apply clinical reasoning to (i) evaluate and interpret clinical and instrumental speech pathology assessment data and (ii) develop intervention plans based on evidence-based principles, using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health model. Students will explore the scope of practice in speech and language development and difficulties for children and adults, including exploring the impact of multi-modal communication for children with complex communication needs.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically review the complex relationship between the biological, psychosocial, cultural and environmental factors that impact communication across the lifespan, and apply it in the clinical reasoning process.
- Critically analyse and apply speech pathology assessment data to intervention planning for individuals with communication disorder or difficulties.
- Construct person-centred sessional, short term and long-term goals for individuals with communication disorders or difficulties.
- Select and apply appropriate speech pathology intervention for clients, using best practice guidelines.
- Present speech pathology assessment data, intervention plans, and outcomes for person-centred practice in audience appropriate formats.
- Appraise how learning in this course relates and contributes to the Speech Pathology Professional Standards
