Course overview
In this course, students will develop knowledge of how to address assessment, analysis and intervention for children living with speech sound disorders. Content includes: Use of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to transcribe speech sound data, speech sound development, assessment, analysis and intervention approaches; Interprofessional practice in speech sounds disorders, advocacy, culturally informed practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop assessment and technology literacy to facilitate formulation of evidence-based management for speech sound disorders.
- Using the ICF framework, interpret assessment information in order to plan evidence-based intervention for clients with speech sound disorders.
- Advocate for a client with a speech sound disorder and plan evidence-based therapeutic supports using an interprofessional practice framework.
- Develop foundational knowledge of the clinical process for practice, including information gathering, diagnostic decision making, management planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Discuss culturally informed practice when working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Discuss culturally informed practice when working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
