Course overview
In this course, students will develop skills in assessment procedures and data interpretation of communication functions and breakdown in persons of all ages. Observation and assessment of people with communication disorders, describing and analysing parameters of communication, use of standardised and non-standardised assessment. Determining appropriate assessment tools considering age, cultural background, education, and cognitive level. Organizational skills, report writing skills, communication skills for reporting information to parents and other professionals.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify and use appropriate clinical assessment procedures and tools to report on speech and language abilities in children and adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds across the lifespan.
- Integrate knowledge from a range of theoretical models to interpret and report assessment data.
- Integrate assessment results in order to advocate for a client with a communication disorder.
- Demonstrate an awareness of culturally informed practice when working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
