Course overview
The course is based on spatial (geographic) data, and how it can be utilised within a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment to solve real-world problems. It introduces students to both the theory and practice of GIS, including: the input, storage and management of data; analysing and modelling geographic data; and the various outputs (maps and charts) from a GIS.

Course learning outcomes
- To perform sophisticated raster and vector GIS analysis in a GIS environment
- To understand the structure, advantages and limitations of raster datasets
- To develop a broad appreciation of spatial analysis techniques and application areas
- To develop specific skills in the construction and manipulation of raster data sets
- Be able to explore and solve spatial problems using GIS techniques and technology
- To develop skills in the creation, management and delivery of spatial data in an online GIS environment
