Course overview
The aim of this course is to apply specialised evidence based clinical knowledge of pathology and mastery of skills, assessment, analysis of findings, planning, intervention and evaluation required for musculoskeletal community client centred physiotherapy practice in a musculoskeletal setting. Students will apply clinical knowledge and skills required for musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice across the lifespan. Students will learn and demonstrate the assessment and management of a variety of peripheral and vertebral musculoskeletal conditions relevant for individuals across the lifespan. Students will implement skills in clinical reasoning, client education, culturally responsive care, medico-legal issues and record keeping.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate the cognitive and technical skills to assess the appropriate components of the musculoskeletal system and accurately interpret and analyse the findings based on sound clinical reasoning skills.
- Plan and teach/apply the relevant safe and effective treatments based on evidence and best practice guidelines
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the physiotherapy intervention and be able to modify or progress treatment based on sound clinical reasoning skills
- Synthesise knowledge and understanding of a variety of clinical syndromes and their underlying biomedical constructs to establish appropriate Physiotherapy Management
- Maintain accurate, concise patient records and communicate appropriately with other health care professionals.
- Demonstrate professional, culturally responsive and ethical behaviour required at entry level physiotherapist in the community practice setting that is consistent with Australian Physiotherapy Association's and Physiotherapy Board of Australia's codes, policies and guidelines.
