Course overview

The aim of this course is to apply advanced understanding of neurophysiological and biomechanical principles to movement assessment and movement-based interventions, within a biopsychosocial framework. Critical application of motor control, motor learning and education theories to the assessment and management of patients with movement impairments; advanced skills in examination of normal movement, movement dysfunction and functional performance in the context of sport, recreation and workforce; examination and management of movement dysfunction in patients with musculoskeletal disorders, chronic conditions; collaborative reasoning in the context of advanced examination and management of movement disorders.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically apply motor control, motor learning and biomechanical principles to the management of movement dysfunction
  • Demonstrate discriminative choice and application of movement tests, with consideration of their indications, normal values, variability, benefits and limitations
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning skills in assessment of movement dysfunction in musculoskeletal and chronic conditions
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning and educative skills in management of movement dysfunction in musculoskeletal and chronic conditions, using a biopsychosocial framework
