Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop an advanced knowledge of communication and ethical reasoning skills, in order to develop a capacity for moral agency required for physiotherapy practice. The aim of this course is to enable students to develop a capacity for moral agency required for physiotherapy practice, the course uses Rest's four component model of moral behaviour and communication theory as a framework to teach an advanced knowledge and skillset of ethical reasoning and communication processes. The course seeks to develop student competence in moral sensitivity, judgement, motivation and courage, and the ability to address barriers to practice presented by managing emotions, power and rank and conflict.
Course learning outcomes
- Differentiate between ethical and clinical situations in different contexts within physiotherapy practice.
- Use different forms of ethical reasoning to generate ethical solutions in physiotherapy practice.
- Critically reflect on personal ethical action.
- Demonstrate reasoning and communication skills that address barriers and enact solutions required for ethical outcomes in physiotherapy practice.
