Course overview

To develop students' understanding of key psychological concepts relevant to human services and health care practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the major stages of human psychological development throughout the lifespan.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of psychology including theories of learning, sensation and perception, personality, motivation, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Apply the basic concepts of psychology to social work, human service and health care.
  • Describe psychological models relevant to understanding of social, emotional and physical wellbeing and ill health.
