Course overview

This course aims to give students the opportunity to develop their clinical psychology-related practice and knowledge skills in a real-world setting. Students will undertake a placement in an appropriate organisation supervised by registered psychologists who are Psychology Board of Australia Board-Approved Supervisors. By applying advanced psychological knowledge in assessment, formulation and intervention, and monitoring and evaluating the outcomes of interventions, students will gain valuable workplace experience to prepare them to become registered psychologists.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate moderate to severe psychological disorders using a relevant international taxonomy
  • Evaluate symptom reduction, therapeutic outcomes, therapeutic alliance and client progress throughout therapy in cases of moderate to severe severity or complexity
  • Appropriately modify interventions to address changes in case formulation, client need or capacity, changes in the client’s circumstances, or broader organisational or societal changes
  • Appropriately consult and collaborate with other professionals as needed to assess clients, plan treatment and make referrals
  • Provide services to clients of different ages and via different modalities
  • Reflect on their own emotions, beliefs, values and behaviour and the effect these have on others and manage self-care
