Course overview
This course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and practice in undertaking culturally appropriate assessments of psychological disorders. Building on introductory knowledge and skills in psychological assessment, this course will cover psychological assessments relevant to clinical psychology. Students will gain advanced knowledge and skills in using interviews, psychometric tests and observation, and integrating findings from multiple sources, which is essential preparation for becoming a registered psychologist.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop knowledge and clinical skills in the practice of culturally responsive psychological assessment, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, in the area of clinical psychology for a variety of assessment tasks, across the lifespan
- Demonstrate competence in the selection, administration, and scoring of assessment measures
- Integrate, interpret and synthesise clinical psychological assessment data. Develop competence in drawing inferences from the results within a hypothesis generating and hypothesis testing framework
- Demonstrate competence in writing a report in an ethical and culturally responsive manner to a referral source of a professional standard
