Course overview
This course will equip students with advanced psychological knowledge of theories of aetiology and the course of complex psychological disorders. Building on introductory knowledge and skills in psychological disorders, including common psychological disorders for diverse clients across the lifespan, students will gain enhanced knowledge that will enable them to recognise, assess, diagnose and formulate psychological disorders in adults.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply and evaluate critically the most commonly used diagnostic classification systems and techniques for diagnostic assessment in a manner that is culturally responsive, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the causes, presentation, diagnosis and treatment options available for psychological problems in adulthood
- Apply commonly used approaches to assessing symptoms and signs of psychological disorders in a manner that is culturally responsive, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
- Demonstrate ability to identify appropriate interventions for common psychological disorders, taking into account individual differences and cultural considerations, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
