Course overview
This course will introduce students to a range of common psychological disorders across the lifespan, for diverse clients and settings. Specific foci will include working with people in the context of age, gender, cultural background, and other demographics. Students will acquire knowledge of prevalence, aetiology, diagnosis, and biopsychosocial causes and maintaining factors as well as frameworks for working in different settings and using different treatment modalities.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify common psychological disorders using a recognised taxonomy
- Understand the advantages and limitations to diagnosis of psychological disorders and consider diagnosis in the context of culture and diversity
