Course overview
The aim of this course is for students to recognise, articulate, and apply their counselling and interpersonal skills by undertaking a 100-hour Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience. These experiences are designed to help you apply your psychological knowledge and counselling and interpersonal skills (introduced in Counselling Foundations, Counselling Skills, and Counselling Interventions) to a diverse range of real-world work situations to enhance your employability and make a meaningful contribution to the community. This course aligns with the program’s intent to equip students with advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of clients and professionals.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop a deep understanding of real world applied practice in mental health, well-being, counselling or related settings
- Apply knowledge and skills to a professional context in a respectful, culturally appropriate, ethical and sensitive manner
- Demonstrate advanced interpersonal skills and teamwork, including the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of client groups and other professionals
- Demonstrate self-awareness and critically evaluate their own counselling and interpersonal skills and identify areas for future skill development
- Reflect on the diversity of professional settings and contemporary societal challenges in which counselling and interpersonal skills can usefully be applied
