Course overview
The aim of this course is to extend students’ understanding of psychological theories and research as these relate to human development across the lifespan (from infancy to older age), and the role of cultural and other contextual influences on human development. The course builds on students’ understanding of promoting whole-person health and well-being and common psychological disorders across the lifespan. Students will apply this knowledge in the context of simulated case-studies in a way that is reflexive, culturally appropriate, and sensitive to the diversity of individuals. Students will develop skills to effectively communicate psychological principles and perspectives to varied audiences.

Course learning outcomes
- Describe the major psychological theories that relate to human development across the lifespan from infancy to older age and explain the role of cultural and other contextual influences on human development
- Apply knowledge of the major theories of developmental psychology to explain information to diverse client groups on contemporary developmental issues at different periods of the lifespan in a way that is reflexive, culturally appropriate, and sensitive to the diversity of individuals
- Develop the ability to communicate psychological principles and perspectives relating to case-studies to diverse audiences using a variety of formats
- Recognise health, well-being and psychological disorders across the lifespan and the support and intervention needs of diverse groups
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills and teamwork in relation to problem-solving and discussing case study scenarios across the lifespan from interdisciplinary perspectives
