Course overview
This course aims to build foundational understanding of perception, thinking, learning, reasoning, personality, intelligence, motivation, and emotions of individuals. Students will learn about theories and methods from individual differences, personality, affective science, cognitive science, learning and perception. This course aligns with the program’s intent to develop broad and coherent knowledge of fundamental concepts, theories, principles and methods related to individual psychology - including understanding of appropriate values, ethics, and cultural influences. Assessment will demonstrate achievement of core psychological literacy skills, such as reflexivity in understanding self and others, and communication of psychology principles in various contexts and formats to diverse audiences.

Course learning outcomes
- Identify the different subdisciplines that fall within the area of individual psychology, recognising the theories, methods and ways of understanding individual behaviour and cognition
- Communicate aspects of psychological theories orally and in written format, using APA conventions
- Demonstrate the application of a range of individual psychological theories to real-world scenarios
- Demonstrate cultural awareness as it pertains to theories of individual psychology and methods of discovery
- Reflect upon the ethical principles underpinning individual psychology research methods and practices
