Course overview
The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of tangible ways to improve the economic, social, and environmental performance of urban infrastructure across the design, construction and operation phases. The course will cover a range of topics relevant to current sustainable infrastructure challenges with a focus on the integration of the development, transport and energy sectors. The course is delivered in an interactive industry style small group discovery model and provides students with valuable industry ready knowledge and skills.
Course learning outcomes
- Discuss how sustainability outcomes can be improved in particular forms of infrastructure that align to specific global and national best practice principles
- Understand a range of factors that drive good outcomes in infrastructure sustainability with a focus on responding to climate change
- Compare and contrast national government approaches to sustainable infrastructure planning
- Discuss key sustainable infrastructure messages from the Australian Infrastructure Audit and Australian Infrastructure Plan and identify examples of best practice
- Discuss the sustainability implications of electro-mobility and the integration of transport and land use planning
- Identify specific implications for sustainable infrastructure from the transition from centralised to distributed energy networks
