Course overview

This course explores the ways in which environmental concerns are reshaping our understanding of citizenship as well as how the language of citizenship (e.g. rights and duties) is shaping environmental politics and policies around the world, including Australia. The first part introduces students to concepts and theories of citizenship. The second part explores the practical manifestations of environmental citizenship, with specific attention to three major political actors: citizens, governments, and corporations. The course provides students with a variety of analytical tools to interpret and assess environmental issues and develop skills to engage in political discourse and policymaking regarding environmental sustainability.
