Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop student knowledge about a range of foot and lower limb problems commonly encountered in the child, their assessment, and management. Neo and post-natal development; Lower limb, gross and fine motor assessment of the child (including history taking). Normal structure, function and development; Common congenital and biomechanical abnormalities; Common paediatric syndromes; Common soft tissue problems; Podiatric intervention and treatment strategies; Ethics and confidentiality in management of the paediatric patient.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate safety and proficiency in techniques of patient examination, interview, recording and diagnosis of more complex foot and lower limb conditions.
- Demonstrate and discuss the concepts of assessment of the child and the normal foot structure, function and development.
- Discuss common abnormalities of the structure, function and development of the child's foot and appropriate treatment regimes
- Complete the manufacture of orthoses in a safe and proficient manner.
- Explain and discuss paediatric syndromes.
