Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide pharmacists with advanced knowledge and skills in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with diabetes mellitus.
Course learning outcomes
- Discuss the pathophysiological basis of glucose metabolism and aetiology of diabetes.
- Interpret clinical and laboratory tests to demonstrate knowledge of the diagnosis and monitoring of people with diabetes.
- Apply the principles of evidence-based treatment in the context of best-practice.
- Discuss the therapeutic management and monitoring of people with diabetes.
- Identify medication-related issues in people taking medicines for diabetes and/or with concurrent health conditions.
- Demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills to communicate strategies for issue resolution.
- Describe community programs available for the prevention and management of diabetes in Australia.
