Course overview

The aim of this course is to expand a student's knowledge and understanding of the health care system with particular reference to the features that directly influence the practice of pharmacy. Ethics; health provision in Australia; working within the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme; quality use of medicines; medication safety; Australian pharmacy law; primary healthcare.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of health care delivery and funding in Australia
  • Demonstrate the principles of evidence based medicine and the quality use of medicine
  • Apply clinical pharmacy knowledge to meet the therapeutic needs of patients.
  • Discuss system provision and improvement to ensure medication safety
