Course overview
The aim of this course is to introduce, in general terms, some of the aberrations which occur in normal tissue structure and function and how they manifest as the signs and symptoms of disease. This course will cover several topics that explore the changes to normal tissue structure and function in the human body including: cell degeneration/adaptation; inflammation and repair; Neoplasia; blood dynamics; genetic defects; and environmental disease factors. Pathology of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine and reproductive systems will also be explored.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe and explain relationships between disease states and altered tissue structure and function.
- Describe the body's physiological responses to disease and the processes that operate at a molecular, cellular and tissue level.
- Synthesise information about pathophysiology and apply that to specific clinical case studies.
