Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop ability for conducting environmental assessments and for providing intervention through environmental manipulation. Principles, techniques, legislative and relevant governance requirements for the application of universal access, assistive technology and environmental modifications to facilitate occupational performance. Principles and techniques to assess environmental dimensions of a person's home environment and recommend equipment and modification to facilitate occupational performance. Understanding occupational impact of spinal cord injury, amputation, developmental delay, sensory processing deficits, mobility issues, multiple severe disabilities and the clinical reasoning process underpinning assessment and intervention within the Occupational Performance Model.
Course learning outcomes
- Investigate, analyse and synthesise the influence of the social, cultural, institutional and physical environments in enabling occupational performance.
- Investigate, analyse and synthesise environmental observation and assessments for people with a range of occupational barriers.
- Justify and interpret appropriate clinical reasoning to support intervention recommendations.
- Apply knowledge regarding equipment prescription, home modifications, assistive technology and sensory processing, design an intervention to enable participation in self-care, play and leisure occupations.
- Design an intervention strategy with creativity and initiative using environmental manipulation as a key enabling agent.
- Discuss the occupational impact of a range of conditions
