Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop students understanding of current occupational therapy practice and beginning level occupational analysis skills. Introduction to occupational therapy practice including the occupational performance process model, impact of physical interpersonal and cultural dimensions of environment on occupational performance and therapeutic use of self. Introduction and practice in occupational analysis focusing on observation and reporting skills. Occupational therapy competency standards and code of ethics. Role of occupation in personal health and wellbeing. Frameworks and models including International Classification of Function, Person-Environment-Occupation Framework (PEO), Occupational Performance Model.

- Discuss the meaning and role of Occupational Therapy in current health practice.
- Appraise the professional competency standards and ethics in relation to practice.
- Demonstrate effective observation, evaluation and reporting skills in relation to occupational analysis.
- Discuss the relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing.
- Describe basic principles of critical thinking required by health care workers for decision making.
