Course overview
The aim of this course is for students to develop skills to assess dietary intake and nutrition status. Students will gain an understanding of models of behavioural change and be introduced to motivational interviewing to implement strategies to improve health and wellbeing considering environmental and sociocultural influences. This course aligns with the program intent to apply evidence-based skills and knowledge to assess and improve health and wellbeing within a community setting.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of evidence-based diet and activity principles for optimal health management
- Demonstrate knowledge of nutrition assessment monitoring and evaluation, related to dietary intake data, energy expenditure and body composition assessment
- Apply models for behaviour change within the context of nutrition and activity
- Apply knowledge of nutrition to improve health and wellbeing across difference environments, cultures and socioeconomic groups
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills through motivational interviewing to implement strategies to improve health and wellbeing
- Work both independently and collaboratively using purposeful reflective practice and apply critical thinking to evaluate communication strategies
