This course aims to enhance advanced proficiency in breastfeeding and lactation management through comprehensive theoretical and practical instruction.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced level of understanding in the anatomy and physiology of lactation
- Apply specialist knowledge in the pharmacodynamics and quality use of medicines within the context of breastfeeding and lactation
- Identify and assess breastfeeding complexities for the woman and infant, with appropriate evidence-based education, feeding care plans, referral pathways, and follow up
- Critically evaluate the role of contemporary breastfeeding and lactation management from a local, national and global perspective, with advanced understanding of relevant policies and protocols
- Apply advanced skill, leadership and communication in meeting the needs of breastfeeding women from diverse backgrounds, including that of Aboriginal and Torres Islander women
- Integrate an advanced philosophy of woman-centred and family-centred care, with a nuanced understanding of the mother-infant dyad, to contribute to professional practice
