Course learning outcomes

  • Critically assess and differentiate between the healthy term neonate and those who are unwell, compromised, or preterm, utilising advanced diagnostic techniques and evidence-based practices
  • Analyse and synthesize the pathophysiology of common and complex neonatal health conditions, illustrating the mechanisms and potential interventions
  • Design and lead integrated midwifery care strategies for managing common neonatal health conditions across diverse healthcare settings, emphasising evidence-based approaches
  • Evaluate and implement sophisticated clinical skills and technological interventions for neonates with complex needs, assessing their effectiveness and safety in improving outcomes
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of legal, ethical, psychosocial, and cultural factors impacting the care of the mother/infant dyad with complex needs, proposing strategies to address these challenges
  • Integrate and evaluate the best available evidence to innovate and refine midwifery care practices for neonates with complex needs and their families
  • Exhibits mastery of verbal, written and professional communication, underpinned by the core tenets of midwifery philosophy, and upholding academic integrity and ethical practice
