To develop and demonstrate an understanding of normal midwifery practice that promotes the childbirth continuum as a normal life event. This includes facilitating woman-centred care acknowledging biopsychosocial and cultural contexts of women.

Course learning outcomes
- Critically apply advanced and integrated understanding of anatomy and physiology to assess and manage scenarios in midwifery practice across pre-conception, pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period
- Synthesise and evaluate information on the impact of healthy lifestyle choices and wellbeing on maternal and neonatal outcomes, applying this knowledge to develop tailored strategies throughout the childbirth continuum
- Advocate for and facilitate birth as a normal life event, integrating complex evidence to support personalised care plans that enhance the natural childbirth experience for the woman and her baby
- Demonstrate mastery of evidence-based practices and decision-making in primary midwifery care, applying these skills to manage normal pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgment
- Exhibit a deep understanding of cultural safety in midwifery practice, specifically for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, by integrating culturally competent care strategies that respect and preserve Indigenous birthing practices and preferences
- Critically analyse and articulate the benefits of midwifery-led continuity of care models, using evidence to advocate for systems and policies that enhance maternal and neonatal health outcomes within diverse communities
- Exhibits mastery of verbal, written and professional communication, underpinned by the core tenets of midwifery philosophy, and upholding academic integrity and ethical practice
