Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate and synthesise the professional, legal, and ethical frameworks that underpin midwifery practice and research, focusing on compliance with relevant legislation, NMBA standards, and professional codes. Demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply these frameworks in complex professional scenarios
  • Critically analyse the historical evolution and contemporary role of the midwife within both local and global contexts, identifying key historical shifts and their impacts on current practices and perceptions
  • Critique the role and implementation of evidence-based practice in midwifery, assessing the diversity of knowledge sources and research methodologies that inform education, maternity care, and clinical practice
  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of evidence-based models of maternity care, comparing the influences of political and economic factors on these models within the Australian healthcare system and in international contexts
