Course overview
This course will build on what was taught in Theory I and Theory II by providing tuition on the considerations of:-
Understanding the concept and practice of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (Notes):
Being able to apply learning theory to clinical surgical practice:
Understanding how conversion from laparoscopic to open surgery can affect the patient:
Determining how to deal with, and avoid, adhesions:
Understanding how to assess cost and cosmoses in surgical patients:
Learning new concepts in pathophysiology of repair of abdominal wall defects, metabolic surgery for bariatric surgery and minimally invasive neural stimulation.
Course learning outcomes
- Understand the concept and practice of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES).
- Be able to apply learning theory to clinical surgical practice.
- Understand the principles of leadership and how this quality can be developed.
- Learn the components of enhanced postoperative recovery.
- Understand how conversion from laparoscopic to open surgery can affect the patient.
- Determine how to deal with and avoid adhesions from all forms of surgery.
- Understand how to assess cost and cosmesis in surgical patients.
- Understand instruments that measure quality of life, how to apply them and how to quantify and analyse the results.
