Course overview
Students undertake a detailed study under the guidance of a supervisor and document their work in the form of a written report or thesis. The topic of the project is decided by the supervisor in conjunction with the student. Students not only increase their discipline knowledge, but develop critical analysis and technical writing skills that are highly useful for many occupations and essential for postgraduate research degrees.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrated familiarity with research in an area of mathematics and/or statistics.
- Demonstrated skills in interpreting and critically evaluating literature related to a current area of research in mathematics and/or statistics.
- Demonstrated skills in communicating mathematical and/or statistical research to an audience, both in written form and orally.
- Demonstrated an understanding of research methods in mathematics and/or statistics.

If you are continuing in a program you commenced prior to 1 January 2021, or are commencing an Honours degree relating to an undergraduate degree you commenced prior to 1 January 2021, you may be charged a different Student Contribution amount from the amount displayed below. Please check the Student Contribution bands for continuing students here. If you are an international student, or a domestic student studying in a full fee paying place, and are continuing study that you commenced in 2025 or earlier, your fees will be available here before enrolments open for 2026.
