Course overview
This course aims to build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in Torts A through a more in-depth examination of a wider range of torts and related issues. It also aims to equip students with a more detailed and sophisticated knowledge and understanding of how this area of the law is likely to develop in the 21st Century. Integral to this aim is the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding of the law to analysing real life torts case studies.
Course learning outcomes
- Problem Solving: analyse a factual scenario involving specific torts, recognise the legal issues and apply the law to determine rights and liabilities
- Case Analysis: classify and synthesise the rules, principles and policies of tort law according to authoritative sources and explain their historical and legal relationship
- Purposes and Perspectives: recognise the dynamic nature of the law of torts and evaluate and critically discuss its development in response to social, economic and political changes
- Communication: use correct legal terminology and apply written communication skills to analyse a torts case study
- Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively in a team, communicating within a team and to an external audience
