Course overview
This course will provide students with an opportunity to learn about legal research methods, academic literature reviews and research project proposal preparation. This course has also been designed to extend and further develop students' interest and skills in preparing a legal research dissertation. This course will extend students' understanding of and experience in the following areas: (1) Legal research methods; (2) Elements of academic legal research, including literature reviews; (3) Distilling a legal problem into research questions; (4) Legal research project planning; (5) Research Codes of Conduct and Ethics.
Course learning outcomes
- Analyse a legal problem and develop legal research questions, demonstrated through the submission of a legal research project plan.
- Work independently, but under the supervision of the Course Coordinator, in developing and refining a research project proposal and by producing a comprehensive and scholarly review of academic literature.
- Orally communicate a legal problem and research proposal before peers and academic staff.
