Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide students with an advanced understanding of Insolvency Law, both in the context of personal insolvency (bankruptcy) and corporate insolvency. Process and consequences of bankruptcy and liquidation; assets available for distribution in the case of bankruptcy and liquidation; administration and termination of bankruptcy and liquidation; alternatives to bankruptcy; company reorganisation; secured creditors and receivership; cross-border insolvency.

Course learning outcomes

  • Examine Insolvency Law principles relating to corporate insolvency and personal insolvency.
  • Apply Insolvency Law principles relating to corporate insolvency and personal insolvency.
  • Analyse aspects of Insolvency Law principles and evaluate the values and ideologies supporting those principles.
  • Consider and assess contemporary legal developments and/or likely future developments through law reform in the Insolvency Law context.
  • Develop and enhance skills of effective problem solving, legal research, and written communication within the Insolvency Law context.
