Course overview
This elective course will empower students to address the moral, scientific, legal and social challenge of climate change and its effects. They will learn about the origins, evolution, and practice of international climate change law and the relationship between law, science, technology and ethics. They will examine the Australian and international legal frameworks related to climate change, and critically analyse the relationship between climate change and other areas of national and international law policy. The course will prepare students to be energetic and adaptable practitioners and advisers, ready to use creative and ethical thinking to develop innovative and workable solutions to climate change problems.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify and explain the science and economics of climate change and their relationship with the law in response to a climate change problem
- Conduct research on the Australian climate change legal framework and critically analyse relevant Australian legal policy in response to a climate change problem
- Identify, apply, and explain relevant ethical obligations related to creating solutions to a climate change problem
- Critically analyse relevant international law policy and its relationship with climate change in response to a climate change problem
- Apply and explain relevant principles from the Australian and international legal frameworks related to climate change to advise workable solutions to a climate change problem
