Course overview
This course will extend students' proficiency in spoken and written Japanese at a developed level and develop their intercultural competence focusing on issues of contemporary Japanese culture and society Students will build upon their vocabulary and structures related to a range of themes and topics and further develop grammatical concepts with a focus on practical language in use. They will explore key aspects of contemporary Japanese culture and society and their relevance to intercultural contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- speak and write in Japanese with increasing accuracy and vocabulary in a range of contexts
- develop a sound knowledge of grammatical and sociolinguistic concepts relating to the topics and uses of Japanese covered
- display linguistic and cultural sensitivity in social interactions in Japanese
- reflect on representations drawn from Japanese culture and society and their relevance in intercultural contexts
