Course overview
This course will introduce students with little or no understanding of French to basic spoken and written communication in the language, and to reflect on intercultural themes. Students will be introduced to French pronunciation, basic vocabulary and use of French in everyday situations. Students will also explore grammatical concepts and structures related to uses in French, sociolinguistic knowledge integral to the range of situations and tasks covered in the language classes, examples of Francophone culture and an investigation of personal cultural frames of reference in the form of a project.

- interpret and respond to a range of text types appropriate to the level of French language proficiency
- recognise aspects of contemporary Francophone culture and society covered in the course
- develop basic intercultural competence as reflected in course resources and activities
